Final Thoughts/Mad Ramblings

Last Post!!!

Yay!!

See even Liz is happy that this is my last post!

All good things must come to an end and all that cliche stuff I guess *stares blankly at screen*

I will say this though, the bloggin experience is certainly a fun one and is far more interactive than a boring old journal in a book... I mean I got to put videos in this journal!!!

Now as it is only fair as the resident classclown I should post one funny video to amuse y'all

So below is an ad from the Anit-boredom campaign....

never let your life be dull. (and if you feel that it is getting dull for any reason whatsoever, please never hestiate to call me as it could develop into a serious condition known as "cynicalteachersyndrome" ).

I often felt and even said that "Never before this day and age have we been more connected to everyone around the globe... yet never before have we been so disengaged from one another as individuals."

....... I say blogs help fight this disengagement not only on a classroom level... but on a global level... we are now learning that there are far more dynamic ways in which to connect with people.. I can now keep in contact with my family and friends around the globe instantly with the use of IM messaging programs (like MSN messenger) and VOIP programs (like Skype).

Don't be afraid to embrace New Learning because we like this subject... are heading into the future (gosh I just hope it doesn't turn out like the Terminator movies...)

When you're teaching your students make sure you give them the right information... you'll never know what they'll achieve in their career choices... *points to picture*

and so for now this blog must come to an end

aww don't feel sad... it's not you

well actually it's not me either... *thinks*

wait why does this have to be the last post?

Ok this is "possibly" the last post... who knows maybe I could capture an innocent victim and turn them to the ways of the blog... and strap them to this darn chair and have them carry on this crazy work of mine!
Come to think of it... it probably would come under the cruelty to innocent people law...

Anyway enough mad ramblings from me

I hope everyone has a kickass time being the exciting teachers I've had a glimpse of seeing this year!

Radness!!

cheerio!

One fantastic thing that New Learning allows is for more students to work on multimedia tools which are increasingly becoming easier and easier to use. No longer do you have to be a wizz at programs like Maya to create fantastic pieces of work that could be on a professional level.

Here I've posted a short clip from YouTube (which was recently purchased by the Google folk for 2.3billion dollars) Youtube provides a space for users to upload video clips which is a great idea.

Here's one I found that I love, I've never seen these Nike ads before which leads me to believe that they are not the real thing... so if that's the case kudos to the creator because these are awesome..

This is Nike - Create

And another one from the same series

This is Nike - Cry

Enjoy :-)

cheers

Teachers Speaking out through Blogs!
So the beauty of working part time at the airport I get access to international press.
Today I picked up Monday's USA Today and turned to page 9B which had the most interesting article "Teachers speak out of turn"

Which then immersed me into this whole world of teachers who use Blogs as their active option to speak out about their profession. Whether it be sharing their day to day adventures or whether it be dealing with education and how it handled within the world of politics.

Here is part of that article:

When the fed-up young teacher decided to quit her job in rural North Carolina in June, her resignation letter was brief — three lines. But she had more to say.

So she spoke her mind online, in an anonymous, 1,000-word Internet posting to her principal that recounted in grim detail racist teachers, obligatory prayers at faculty meetings, "What would Jesus do?" lectures and a "terrible" vice principal who "tries to sleep with the coaches."

Although all names, including those of the school and city, were withheld, the letter was widely read. For three years, the thirtysomething teacher had been writing a popular Internet weblog, or blog, under the pseudonym First Year Teacher.

She's one of hundreds of teachers who blog these days, uploading details from their daily lives for a firsthand look at the maddening, exhilarating, often heartbreaking world of the modern public school.

Perhaps because they are so raw and unscripted, teacher blogs — often written anonymously for fear of reprisal — are finding an audience.

The rest of the article can be located at here: Teachers Speak out of Turn

Some of the interesting blogs that I have since discovered include:

Shut Up And Teach!

This blog has recently been looking at the "No Child Left Behind" legislation which Congress passed in 2001. It gives a critical overview of the legislation and points out that once again.. teachers have been forgotten in the process and that education in the US is still focusing on "testing" students knowledge.

Teacher In Development
Aaron Nelson is a business English teacher in Mexico city and his blog is dedicated to exploring student centered learning with thoughtful posts regarding teaching in the 21st century and encouraging learner autonomy. He also refers to many other blogs that are equally as useful/insightful.

And for now that's all folks!

Cheers

ICT in my classroom
Whhee!!!

2 weeks into my 4 week block and I've been having fun using a small amount of ICT within the classroom.... including POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS!!

*laughs*

bit of fun really :P

The kids actually listen/take in more too as opposed to just me standing there chatting

TIP: When creating a presentation use a variety of colours. Children with Dyslexia can have trouble reading black text on white background so different colours etc can be helpful :-D

cheers for now

Cold Sweat and the shakes = ......
Today is Sunday...

I looked up the dictionary meaning for the word Sunday and discovered the following meanings:

1st meaning - First day of the week; observed as a day of rest and worship by most Christians. (I'm not christian... that's probably why I've been working all day instead of resting).

2nd meaning - The day after Saturday, and before Monday!!!

MONDAY!!!

Is the 1st official day of me returning to my role as "pre-service teacher"....... I can already hears the cries of dismay and the occasional shriek of terror....

...scary thing is though it's me doing those sounds of sheer terror.

Never fear though!!

I'm armed with pencils, paper, whiteboard markers, my laptop and believe it or not..... LESSON PLANS!! *grasps the edge of the desk before she faints dead away*

So to all my fellow pre-service teachers about to embark on their teaching rounds I wish you all the best and may it be a lot of fun :-D

Peace out

Is it time for a change?

So what do you all think?

Is it time we had a change in education?

New learning encourages the use of technology and who knows the more hands on we are with technology on a daily basis might better equip us all for the future world.....

What an exciting ideal hands on environment! I think It would certainly encourage student engagement and it is well known that.....

Student Engagement = Lower class behavioural issues
